Isolation

That's the psychology behind imprisonment, isolation is the greatest punishment any living being can get. Being separated from rest of the society is worse than dead. Though we proudly consider man as a 'social animal', I don't think that even animals can have an isolated life, applicable to most of them. The desire to be heard, recognized and get response from others are basic human needs. Social networking sites like Orkut or Facebook, works and thrives on this psychology.

Barring the people who live behind the bars, we all can spend time with friends, loving family and we also succumb to a lot of material possessions. But sometimes, amidst of all these love, laughter and celebrations we suddenly lose ourselves. Everything, the loving friends, dazzling parties and ravishing girlfriend, becomes alien concepts.

Everything appears to be fake then, there will be no sense of belonging and you will feel totally isolated from the rest. The state of nothingness will be so haunting then and you will feel like going for a long journey leaving everything behind, just like a free fall. I don't know if Gautama Buddha felt the same, but yes it is divine if you can remain detached with the material world for a long time. But, alas, we human beings get up next morning thinking what to achieve or who to flirt with! Of course, the positive side cannot be ignored, to chase your bigger dreams, to support the needy, you have to be back on track. This is the way the universe works and it should be like that, to maintain the equilibrium of life. To take a break and think about the meaninglessness of glittery relationships and celebrations. But sooner you will be back, you have to be.

As Bhagavad Gita says ""Karmanye Vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana, Ma Karma Phala Hetur Bhurmatey Sangostva Akarmani"

(you have the right to perform your prescribed action, but don't expect anything in return for your action.
Never consider yourself as the cause of the results of your activities and always do your duty.)

PS: Lets expect some results and do our prescribed actions :)

The second line from the quote from Bhagvad Gita, changes ones perspective completely.
Glad I read it when I am supposed to.
