2011 and some not-so-random thoughts
2011 is leaving, waving me good bye and honestly, I'm going to miss it badly. As time progresses, the thumb rule of the universe works; things change. Things change for good and/or bad, but however optimistic I'm trying to be a huge percentage of people are getting worse, especially in the way they co-exist with fellow human beings.
This observation is not just a passing remark, nor superficial. Sometimes I feel that we do not deserve this beautiful planet, and we should not waste time searching for aliens, we ARE the aliens. I am not trying to be the angel here, but at least I'm trying to live in a mutually supportive world. Be it my home, work place or public road, I am not trying to be the emperor. I depend on help, support and kindness of a lot of people in day to day life and it is not going to change even if I reach the ultimate position in my career or life.
Humility and helpfulness are taken for granted almost everywhere. If you do an odd job for a colleague because it was extremely urgent, he might sideline you as an assistant from then. On the other hand, I have and had colleagues who treated me as an equal regardless of their high status in the hierarchy. If you stop at a signal and some non-law abiding 'citizen' wants to pass the red signal, he will honk as if it is the end of the world. And if you give him some space, he will smash on your rear view mirror, grin at you, and go. If you trust a friend as your alter ego, all you get back might be a messed up life. If you buy something expensive for your home, paid the money in advance and the delivery was scheduled later, rest assured, you will have to cry, beg and shout for your stuff later on.
I know that the world is not fair and get used to it long back. But my point is, it was better. There were people who stopped for kids to cross the road, there were people who waited at the red signal even when there was no cop, there were guys who appreciated the beauty of girls and not letch at them (there IS a difference), there were kids who loved small gifts and chocolates, unlike these ones. And there was a bigger population who really valued the goodness of the world and the people in it.
I wanted to write something exciting to bid adieu to 2011, but honestly concerns always take over excitement.
2011, you were good, in all probability better than your successor 2012. Personally, I got a transfer as I wished in 2011, I owned a vehicle of my own, a home which I can call mine and above all I find my partner for life, the very best I could ever ask for.
Things could get better, or at least I will stay as I am which is the least I could do :)
